Benjamin Rooney-Sailand is the founder of ConiFriends, a community-rooted conservation group based in Spokane. After studying Environmental Science at Eastern Washington University, Benjamin joined the Washington Conservation Corps, where he developed a deep passion for forestry through hands-on fieldwork. The spark that led to ConiFriends came while helping clear a snow access road near Tonasket—where Benjamin saw an opportunity to rescue native saplings and replant them with care. What began as a few trees soon grew into two full greenhouses, and a dream to green Spokane one conifer at a time. Benjamin’s vision for ConiFriends is rooted in the belief that small actions, like planting a single tree, can leave a legacy that outlives us all.
